My roots began in comedy and, specifically, improvisation. I saw my first improv show where I wound studying it years later, the world-renowned Groundlings Theater & School in Los Angeles. It has cultivated such talents as Will Ferrell, Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kathy Griffin, Pee Wee Herman (Paul Reubens), Phil Hartman, and Maya Rudolph... to name a few. At the same time, I worked in the corporate world, so I knew how to “speak the language” and saw firsthand how improv was empowering me in meetings, presentations, in my own thinking, in the work I created, how I interacted, and how I dealt with conflict and challenges.
When I moved to Manhattan to start my own improv school, I also began a corporate training company, using improv as the core methodology for the development of individuals and groups. iMergence was born. I am fortunate to travel across the U.S. and abroad helping businesses adapt faster, innovate more effectively, and communicate at higher levels. I also work with women in terms of confidence and leadership, using tools and insights I discovered working with women in my improv classes. It bred a talk and workshop series called Good Girls Aren’t Funny (www.GoodGirlsArentFunny.com).
