Emotional health is one of the cornerstones of well-being. It can help you manage stress, feel good, and lead a more fulfilling lifestyle. However, it’s often something which is overlooked, as the focus on other areas of mental health seem to push this important topic to the side.

Emotional health is one part of mental health and is described as a person’s awareness of (and ability to cope with) emotions that are both positive and negative. It is how we acknowledge our own emotions, as well as those of others.

Of course, you can still have days when you feel sad, or stressed, but it will help you to recognize these emotions and deal with them in a way that does not create long term damage.

So how can you tell if your emotional health is out of balance? There are some simple questions that you can ask yourself:

    • Are your energy levels regularly low?
    • Are you struggling with motivation at home or at work?
    • Are you regularly getting stressed with loved ones?
    • Are you eating too much (or too little) and reaching for alcohol to reduce stress?
    • Do you have high blood pressure?

If the answer to these questions is yes, then addressing these issues head on will help to get you back on track.
