Leadership Culture Series

What differentiates a great athlete from a good one is their ability to read their bodies and adjust training accordingly. This is what Sebastian Steffen learnt from marathon legend Haile Gebrselassie, turning the lesson into his own leadership styles.

“It’s going to be uncomfortable, but ultimately, it will elevate the team.”
Sebastian Steffen, Senior Vice President of Investor Relations at adidas

A confident, situationally aware leader takes ownership for their own growth and faces tough conversations without delay. They’re aware of the importance of having diverse team members who challenge each other. “It’s going to be uncomfortable, but ultimately, it will elevate the team and help the team and the individuals excel,” sums Sebastian.

To Sebastian, three things are necessary to becoming a confident leader: integrity, decisiveness, and passion. Hear him elaborate on these and other aspects of confidence in the 5-minute video below. For a deeper dive, go to our special feature on leadership.
